1. Why did you decide to run for Council in Ward 14?
I am one of only three candidates in this race who actually lives in Ward 14 and I have lived, worked and raised my family here for nearly 30 years. I love this community and am very committed to it. I have the skills, knowledge and experience to represent the residents, my neighbors and friends, in City Council.
2. What are your life experiences and background in Ward 14?
I have worked in Ward 14 on many grassroots issues, particularly in the Hispanic community. This has included voter registration drives, campaigns for the rights of immigrant workers, innumerable social and cultural events and election campaigns on behalf of Ed Davila, Nelson Cintron, Jr. and Jazmin Torres-Lugo. I have been active in the San Lorenzo Club and the Roberto Clemente Little League. I was a founding member of the Cleveland chapter of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, affiliated with the AFL-CIO.
Most importantly, I served as Councilman Cintron’s Executive Assistant for almost the entire time he was in office. In that capacity I was active with every block club, neighborhood group and service agency. I handled the problems of Ward 14 constituents on a daily basis and dealt with some 40,000 requests for service. I have walked every street and alley in the ward and knocked on the doors of almost every resident. I know Ward 14 better than any other candidate. I know how the city works and I have a record of getting things done.
3. Why do you say you are “not part of the machine.”
