The essence of the spirit and mission of Birthright is love. These are the words of Louise Summerhill, who founded the Birthright organization in 1968 in Toronto, Ontario. These words perfectly describe Birthright’s philosophy and approach. Birthright is a pregnancy support service, which helps women single or married, regardless of age or income. Birthright volunteers are committed to nurturing life and are dedicated to helping pregnant women by giving them positive, loving, and tangible support. Birthright volunteers begin by listening with love and understanding. Since the best decisions are well informed decisions, Birthright makes certain that all clients know what helpful resources are available, and how to access these resources. Birthright is an all volunteer, nonprofit, nondenominational organization concerned about life—the life of the mother who comes in for help and that of her unborn child.
Birthright services are free, personal and confidential. We offer free pregnancy tests and help women without insurance find free prenatal care. In addition, we offer assistance in finding help for our clients’ special needs through community resources. Birthright also offers material assistance such as maternity and baby clothes. Birthright provides referrals to licensed adoption agencies as well as shelter during pregnancy if needed.
Birthright assists approximately 400 women a year and provides clothes for approximately 350 babies. We rely on concerned, public spirited members of the community, organizations, and church groups for funding. All gifts are tax deductible according to the law. Birthright has no salaried personnel. There is always a need for volunteers at Birthright. If you are interested in volunteering, give us a call. The 3 Birthright offices are opened from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Monday through
