Cleveland, OH – At least 300 people are expected to convene at the first Non-Partisan Regional Hispanic Community Candidate Forum on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. The event is free and open to the public.
This is the first time Hispanic leaders from Northeast Ohio’s business, faith based, education, and social service communities have banded together in large numbers to demand attention to the needs and issues facing the Hispanic population of the region.
The event comes in advance of this year’s two primary and general elections and is aimed at focusing on the priorities of the rapidly growing number of Hispanic voters who live, work, and raise their children in the region. “It is time we work together to make informed decisions that affect our community as a region, and it is critical that the candidates know the issues our families face on a daily basis,” said Jose Feliciano, President of the Hispanic Roundtable.
The event will highlight the contributions being made by Hispanics and their growing influence on the political landscape. “The Hispanic voting block could make the difference between who gets elected or defeated. The 300 plus leaders who are hosting this event are the main source of information to tens of thousands of Hispanic voters in Northeast Ohio who look to them to decide which candidates to support,” said Feliciano.
With the upcoming gubernatorial, senatorial, and congressional elections, Latinos are gearing up to educate candidates and law-makers on policy issues involving economic growth, education, immigration, health, and safety.
The forum is expected to draw attendance from Cleveland, Akron, Lorain, Ashtabula, and Youngstown. The Non-Partisan Candidate Forum will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 5:30-7:30pm at La Sagrada Familia Church located at 7719 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland.
