CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE DECLARES HEALTHCARE.GOV ANOTHER ‘IMPORTANT STEP’ IN COVERING THE UNINSURED
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) applauded the launch today of www.healthcare.gov, a website operated by the federal government. It offers a guide to key benefits of health care reform and an insurance shopping tool. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that was signed into law in March, called for the creation of a website to empower consumers with accurate and easily accessible information.
Congresswoman Fudge stated “In Cleveland, thousands of my constituents live, work, and raise their families a stone’s throw away from some of the best health care facilities in the world, yet they're unable to afford basic medical care. Seniors face choices of paying for medication or putting food on the table. More than 83,000 people in my district have no health insurance. The Affordable Care Act will help to bring affordable care within reach to those who critically need it. This website is an important step toward that end. “
“I always said that health care reform won’t be fast and it won’t be easy. Phasing it in is the most effective way to make sure we’re doing it right. Healthcare.gov will be a bridge to resources for Americans who need relief now and cannot wait until 2014 for full implementation.”
The core of the new website is the powerful insurance options finder. After consumers enter background information – such as state, age range, and current insurance status – the tool will generate a list of both private and public health insurance options.
