Cleveland, OH (October 14, 2010) – Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will join Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan, Mayor Frank Jackson and Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (D-OH) to announce a major grant to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency of Cleveland (NOACA).
The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency of Cleveland will be awarded the grant to support their efforts to lift up economically disadvantaged communities. The agency is expected to promote equitable, affordable housing with a “fix-it first” strategy that minimizes community blight.
“ Northeast Ohio is the epicenter of the foreclosure crisis that has devastated our entire nation. With the help of many in our community, I have been able to demonstrate the need to the Federal government and help is on the way. This grant will complement our continued and ongoing efforts to combat home foreclosures and community blight,” said Kucinich.
Congressman Kucinich has been at the forefront of issues related to the housing and foreclosure crisis, holding ten hearings in his Congressional subcommittee on the issue, including two in Cleveland . After the Department of the Treasury initially left Ohio out of the Hardest Hit Fund, a new program for home foreclosure prevention, he rallied the Ohio delegation and secured $172 million for Ohio in a second round of funding.
