Washington, DC – On Monday March 28th, President Obama participated in a Community Forum put together by Univision, where he spoke about education, bullying, the DREAM Act, and the deportation of undocumented students, among other important issues in the Latino community.

President Obama has once again risen to the occasion by offering cookie cutter statements that appeal to the Latino community, assuring them that everything in his power is being done in order to pass the DREAM Act. However, behind the flowery statements and reassuring words from the President, immigrant youth across the country are disillusioned with Obama's promises.
The President pressed for individuals to contact their legislators, failing to acknowledge the bravery of undocumented students who have gone as far as holding sit-ins in the offices of their unresponsive legislators, risking deportation in order to draw support for the legislation. These legislative targets have included members of the Democratic party.
"The Obama administration believe that we can still get the DREAM Act done in Congress and that until it passes, they have no responsibility to stop the suffering of DREAMers who continue to be arrested and deported. But we as undocumented youth know better. We know that the administration and Congress alike are failing to take on leadership roles vital to ensure the passage of this legislation." says Maria Marroquin, organizing team member of DREAMActivist.Org, an action and resource site for immigrant youth. / "La administracion del Presidente Obama cree que todava podemos implementar el DREAM Act. Pero nosotros, como estudiantes sin documentos, conocemos la verdad. Sabemos que el presidente y el Congreso no estan tomando el liderazgo apropiado para asegurar la implementacin del DREAM Act," dice Maria Marroquin, miembra del equipo DREAMActivist.org, un centro de accion y recursos para estudiantes inmigrantes.
When pressed about the deportation of undocumented students, Obama responded that his priority is deporting criminals and that nothing will be done to alleviate the circumstances of undocumented students in the meantime. Again, the administration has no intentions of stopping the deportation of any DREAM-eligible youth; the responsibility of stopping those deportations falls on the shoulders of DREAMers themselves.
