Bookmark and Share

Cleveland Clinic is the best hospital in the Cleveland metropolitan area, according to new rankings by U.S. News & World Report. In all, nine Cleveland Clinic Health System hospitals ranked among the 17 best hospitals in the area, including seven of the Top 10.

The following Cleveland Clinic hospitals placed among the area’s best:

Cleveland Clinic (1st)
Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland (3rd)
Fairview Hospital in Cleveland (4th)
Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights (5th)
Huron Hospital in East Cleveland (7th)
South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights (7th)
Lakewood Hospital (10th)
Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights (14th)
Euclid Hospital (17th)

“These rankings illustrate the strength of Cleveland Clinic’s value to communities throughout northeast Ohio ,” said David Bronson, M.D., President of Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals. “While all hospitals can’t be all things to all people, we are here to serve the needs of every patient in the region by building a healthcare system that places a highly specialized hospital at the center to handle the most difficult cases, with smaller centers of excellence in local communities.”

To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties, based on existing 2010-11 data.

Cleveland Clinic has a history of ranking highly in the magazine’s annual rankings. In U.S. News’ “2010-11 Best Hospitals,” released last July, Cleveland Clinic ranked as the fourth best hospital in America, while its heart program ranked as the best in the nation for the 16th consecutive year. In all, 14 Cleveland Clinic specialties ranked in the Top 10 nationally: Heart & Heart Surgery (1); Urology (2); Gastroenterology (2); Rheumatology (2); Pulmonology (3); Kidney Disorders (3); Gynecology (4); Orthopedics (4); Diabetes/Endocrine Disorders (6); Neurology & Neurosurgery (6); Ear, Nose & Throat (8); Cancer (9); Geriatrics (10); and Ophthalmology (10).

Lutheran Hospital also ranked among “2010-11 Best Hospitals,” ranking 42nd in neurology and neurosurgery. Fairview Hospital (respiratory care, 33) and Hillcrest Hospital (digestive disorders, 41, ...
