Margaret Moran re-elected LULAC President

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Among a full house at the Duke Energy Convention Center last night, LULAC President Margaret Moran received a proclamation from Mayor Mark Mallory on behalf of the City of Cincinnati recognizing July 1 as President Margaret Moran Day. This year Cincinnati served as the backdrop for LULAC’s 82nd Annual Convention where training workshops, free health screenings, and a Job Fair was made free and readily accessible to the general public of the greater Cincinnati metropolitan area.



"The honor belongs to the membership of LULAC because without our volunteers we wouldn't be able to do what we do in our communities," said President Moran.



A volunteer herself, Moran is the third woman to serve as president of an organization with a long standing commitment to ensuring equal rights for millions of Hispanics. President Moran was first elected as LULAC’s National President in 2010 and was successfully re-elected as National President at the conclusion of this year’s convention.



Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Moran represents the first time a husband and wife have served as National Presidents in the history of LULAC. Her husband, Oscar Moran, served as President of LULAC from 1985 to 1988.



LULAC continues to fight for the issues that severely impact Hispanics across the United States. LULAC believes our nation urgently needs an effective and practical immigration reform that would ensure a streamlined naturalization process for those seeking US Citizenship.



“We need a system that will effectively reduce the backlog of individuals seeking residency or citizenship so that they too can legitimately participate in this country’s political process and be assert their rights and privileges as citizens,” said President Moran to distinguished guests, former President of Mexico Vicente and his wife Marta Fox, and representatives from the Consulate of Mexico, and the Mexican Embassy.
