Cleveland, Ohio – The Board of Education of the Marcus Garvey Academy, (a public, charter school founded in 2002 by high profile businesswoman Alexandria Johnson Boone), has announced the appointment of Stanley R. Miller to the position of Head of School. Miller will join the Academy staff in August 2011.
A longtime Clevelander, Miller graduated from Glenville High School and Kent State University, and most recently served as Executive Director of the Cleveland Branch of the National Association for the Advancement
of Colored People (NAACP). He is also an ordained Minister serving as Pastor at Shaffer Memorial United Methodist Church.
Prior to joining the NAACP, he spent 2 years as the Executive Director of the Neighborhood Centers Association, the coordinating agency for 19 neighborhood centers in Greater Cleveland. In his corporate career, Stanley spent 31 years at Ameritech, a major telecommunications company, retiring in 1999 as Vice President of External Affairs, with statewide responsibility for government affairs, economic development, stakeholder relations, foundation and grant operations and community affairs across the State of Ohio. He also served as the Interim Chief External Affairs Officer for the Cleveland Municipal School District during the transition to the current “CEO’ style of governance.
Stanley is, and has been, active on a number of prestigious boards and commissions, including serving as a member and Past President of the Warrensville Heights City Board of Education; Chair of the Granville
Academy Board of Trustees; trustee of Cuyahoga Community College; member of the visiting committees of both the Kent State University Business School and Cleveland State University’s Levin College; member
