Ray Austin to Appear at “Saturday Night Live Boxing”



Cleveland, OH-One of Cleveland’s most successful professional fighters will be on hand to witness the first outdoor boxing show in Cleveland in nearly 15 years. Ray “The Rainman” Austin (24-3-4, 16 KO’s) will be a special guest at “Saturday Night Live Boxing: Slugfest on the River” on September 16, 2006 at The Plain Dealer Pavilion. Austin, who is currently rated #2 by the IBF, is coming off a hard-fought draw with unbeaten heavyweight contender Sultan Ibragimov (19-0-1, 16 KO’s). The bout was held on ESPN2 and was the highest rated boxing match ever on the network, drawing over 900,000 viewers.



The card is quickly gaining momentum with bouts including super middleweight Ronald Johnson (8-1, 2 KO’s), cruiserweight Aaron Williams (8-0-1, 6 KO’s) and junior middleweight sensations Delaney Howard (4-0, 3 KO’s) and Juan McPherson (2-0, 1 KO). McPherson, a former amateur phenom, has looked impressive as of late, sparring with former WBA light welterweight champion Sharmba Mitchell (57-6, 30 KO’s).



Handling the ring announcing duties will be Channel 19 Action News anchorwoman Sharon Reed while Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik (28-0, 25 KO’s), the number one rated middleweight in the world, will be ringside to take in all of the night’s action.
