This was forwarded to me from a friend who teaches Spanish. I haven't been to the restaurant yet, but I thought you might be interested:
I think that you would love this restaurant...it is one of my favorites! The owner's name is Maria. She is from El Salvador. Her story is amazing. She lived there during the time of the Civil war and left because it was so bad. I totally recommend her restaurant. It is like a mom and pop's kind of place. She owns it and makes the food all by herself. It is a one woman show. But lately she hasn't been getting business. I went there yesterday with a friend and was her first customer for 2 days...she was on the verge to cry...poor thing...She is a sweetie.....If you can pass this email along...:) gracias...
The address is
La Casa Tazumal
3260 W. 105th St.
Cleveland, Ohio 44111
Phone (216) 688-1803
Her name is Dona Maria Martinez
If you ever want to stop by I know that she would appreciate the business...She also does carry out...She sells....
Drinks:
horchata
tamarindo
ensalada (yes...it is a drink)
hot chocolate..is different..but good...mmmmm
Typical plates
1. pupusas (mmmmmm): They are like stuffed tortillas..with cheese, beans or meat...really typical (1.50 each)...big like a pancake...and addicting!
a. if you want them spicy..you can put curtido on top (looks like cole slaw...but no
mayonnaise but has a hot pepper flavor)
b. or a salsa...spicy ......really spicy (these are just additions)...doesn't cost extra
2. tamales (1.50 each)
3. yuca (like a potato)...typical
4. Casamiento (rice and beans)
etc....The prices are really great! Really cheap overall....and good...She makes you feel like part of the family....
It is also a great place for those who are teachers...to do a field trip or even to inform your students..etc
