CLEVELAND – Sept. 30, 2008 – To help advance the business case for racial equity in Northeast Ohio, the YWCA Greater Cleveland will host a Town Hall Meeting, "Inclusion, Equity, Privilege: Is Corporate America Making Progress in the 21st Century?" on Oct. 7 at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The event is free and open to the public. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a networking reception.
This thought-provoking forum will be held in conjunction with the powerful "RACE: Are We So Different?" exhibit currently open at the Museum. The exhibit explores the issue of race and racism in the United States from the perspectives of science, history and the everyday experience.
Through the generous support of Forest City Enterprises, Inc. and the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, the YWCA is honored to host Dr. Eddie Moore Jr., a nationally recognized expert on inclusion and privilege, as the keynote speaker for the meeting. Dr. Moore will examine issues related to inclusion, racial equity, privilege and leadership in the American workplace.
"Only when business leaders recognize the sound economic reasons behind fostering an inclusive corporate culture will they fully realize the potential for racial equity in the workplace," said Dr. Moore. "Racial equity is not just something to do to be 'politically correct,' but it is a means by which to secure our economic future."
Dr. Moore developed and now leads a multicultural diversity consulting and research team, America & MOORE. He and his team give interactive, motivating and challenging presentations, focusing on issues of diversity, race relations, community, stereotypes and self-esteem. Dr. Moore's resume and biography are available at www.eddiemoorejr.com.
"A pioneer in the field of diversity and inclusion, Dr. Moore will bring an important message and viewpoint to Northeast Ohio," said Barbara Danforth, president & CEO, YWCA Greater Cleveland. "Understanding and advancing the business case for racial equity is a vital step toward one half of the YWCA's mission – eliminating racism."
