During the past six months, the Hispanic Business Association (“HBA”), under the direction of a new and diverse Board of Directors, has implemented systemic change in the areas of corporate governance, fiscal responsibility and strategic program execution and development. Although HBA has grown without the direction of an Executive Director, central leadership is essential to the future growth and success of the Organization. While the Board has been dedicated in conducting a nationwide search for candidates for the Executive Director position, recent developments in our projects and services have demanded the immediate need for daily administrative management, assistance in funding procurement, and strategic development of our current and future programs. Based on the foregoing, the Board unanimously resolved to hire an Interim Executive Director no later than October 1, 2008.
As such, it is with great pleasure that I introduce Stephanie M. Mercado as the next Interim Executive Director of HBA. As a past Member of the Board and Corporate Secretary of HBA, Ms. Mercado already possesses the institutional knowledge concerning the Organization necessary to efficiently adapt her leadership style to the Organization’s immediate needs.—Gus Hoyas , HBA Board Chairman
After living in the North East Ohio area for 15 years, Ms. Mercado obtained her undergraduate degree from John Carroll University in 2002 after previously attending Fordham University. She then went on to obtain her law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2005 where she graduated magna cum laude. She was admitted to the Ohio Bar that same year. During her time at Cleveland-Marshall, Stephanie served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association as well as Senior Editor of the Journal of Law and Health.
