EUCLID, OHIO – Today, in a prominent display of bipartisan support, Cuyahoga
County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones, challenger and Bay Village Mayor Debbie
Sutherland, Euclid Mayor Bill Cervenik, and Pepper Pike Mayor Bruce Akers
gathered at Euclid City Hall, to promote State Issue 2, the continuation of the
Clean Ohio program. Clean Ohio is the highly successful bond issue, first
passed in 2000, which provides funding for conservation, farmland preservation,
recreational trials and the clean up of polluted, abandoned sites. The officials
urged voters of both parties to vote YES for Issue 2, highlighting the creation
of jobs and the tremendous economic impact Clean Ohio has had throughout the
state and in Northeast Ohio in particular. They went on to emphasize that Issue
2 will not raise taxes.
"In this time of economic uncertainty, I am glad to be here today in a
bipartisan effort to support one of Ohio's strongest economic growth
programs—the Clean Ohio Fund," said Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson
Jones. "Clean Ohio has been a job creator for Ohio, adding over 100,000
construction jobs and a projected 14,500 permanent new jobs, all while helping
clean up and revitalize our cities."
"It's essential that when we have such an effective program like Clean Ohio, we
come together to promote its continuation, no matter what side of the aisle
we're on," said Bay Village Mayor and Republican candidate for Cuyahoga County
Commissioner Debbie Sutherland. "Statewide, Clean Ohio has leveraged $2.6
billion in additional investment, and has preserved some of our greatest
resources for generations to come. Clean Ohio will not raise taxes and will
continue this impressive record of revitalization, conservation, and
preservation. I urge voters from both parties to vote 'Yes' for Issue 2."
The Northeast Ohio officials joined with leaders across Ohio in the bipartisan
effort to support the passage of Issue 2. Among those supporting a "Yes" vote
on Issue 2 are Senators Brown and Voinovich, Governor Strickland, Speaker Husted
and Senate President Harris in support of Issue 2. The
