CLEVELAND) October 20, 2008—Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson and his mayoral counterparts from thirty other cities and villages located across Cuyahoga County announced their support for the reelection of County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones at a press conference this afternoon. Gathering on the front steps of Cleveland City Hall, mayors representing communities east and west of the Cuyahoga River united to affirm their commitment, praising Commissioner Jones repeatedly for the accessibility and the effectiveness that have characterized his tenure.
“Peter Lawson Jones is an independent, trustworthy public official,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “He has always been willing to take a stand on challenging issues, and I applaud his success in promoting innovative approaches to economic development that harness the exceptional assets of our county and its citizens. Peter serves my constituents in the City of Cleveland and the residents of every community in Cuyahoga County with great energy and respect. That is precisely why my fellow mayors and I are here today, to urge Cuyahoga County voters to reelect a candidate whose dedication to regionalism is matched by his commitment to equity.”
Commissioner Jones accepted the mayors’ enthusiastic endorsement with gratitude, acknowledging its significance and pledging his continued commitment to serving Cuyahoga County’s nearly 1.3 million residents. Said Jones, “I am humbled that the leaders gathered here—friends from throughout the county—have expressed their confidence in me. Being afforded the opportunity to serve in public office in the area where I grew up—the community in which my wife and I have chosen to raise our children—is a tremendous honor, one that I embrace wholeheartedly and with enormous hope. Cuyahoga County’s future is limitless, and I remain dedicated to working diligently each and every day to make this county a place where all can thrive.” A listing of endorsing mayors follows.
