St. Thomas University To Kick-Off Grand Jubilee Celebration February 2
MIAMI, Jan. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- One of the leading Catholic universities in the southeast United States, St. Thomas University (http://www.stu.edu) continues its 50th Anniversary festivities as it expands online programs and undergraduate scientific research, offers nursing scholarships and launches its Human Trafficking Academy. The St. Thomas message to students, educators and parents is simple: a private university education is not just for the well-off. St. Thomas makes the benefits of such an experience affordable. While 70% of its students (primarily first-generation college students) come from families with incomes under $60K, 87% of students receive financial aid, with an average package of $17K.
With a 40% Hispanic student population, the University is recognized for developing leadership in areas like justice, science, business and ministry. This is a result of a faculty that devotes time to student personal interaction and a small-class environment (14:1 student/faculty ratio). Today the University has 14 varsity teams; 27 undergraduate majors; 16 graduate majors; 4 Law School degrees and a total of 20 buildings.
Plans to hold the Grand Jubilee celebration April 21, 2012 are moving forward, with Maria Elena Villamil and Frances Sevilla-Sacasa as Co-Chairs. To provide details on the upcoming event and St. Thomas' unparalleled growth, philanthropist Bunny Bastien is hosting a dinner-dance Thursday, February 2nd, 6:30 p.m., at her Gables Estates residence. Monsignor Franklyn M. Casale will share how the University is recognizing the past, honoring the present and unlocking the future.
